What is gold-filled?

Gold-filled is a layer of gold bonded to another type of metal. All Emilia Kate materials that make up our custom pieces are lead-free and nickel-free, making them hypoallergenic and suitable for those with sensitive skin.  Our pieces must pass standards to be classified as gold-filled, which all of our materials, down to the tiny rings and clasps, as well as our chain, are 100% 14k gold-filled handcrafted in the USA.  USA standards are highest to assure all the safety regulations and standards are met.  Gold-filled is not to be confused with gold plating as gold-filled has 100% more gold than gold plating, and plating is thought as of "dipped" into gold rather than bonded. Gold-filled is more valuable and tarnish resistant. It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors.  Gold-filled gives you the look of solid gold with durability for a fraction of the cost of solid gold pieces.

How to care for your piece

Our pieces should never be worn to sleep in or worn by young children unattended, which pose risk for strangulation and are a choking hazard.  Our pieces will not tarnish, however our recommendation is to remove whenever in contact with water or sweat to keep your piece clean and shiny.  Your Emilia Kate piece is best cleaned with a dry polish cloth, or if deep cleaning is needed, dish soap may be used and a soft cloth to dry. Our pieces are best stored in a cool, dry place when not being worn.  Although our chains may be stacked, your discs pose a risk for slight scratching.
